ABOUT LIANE KIRKCALDY

I am dedicated to providing a safe and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions. My goal is to empower you to overcome obstacles and lead a fulfilling life.

I specialise in providing counselling services for individuals dealing with relationship issues, stress, trauma, anxiety disorders, drug and alcohol addiction, and bereavement.

I am based at The Rock Clinic in Kemp Town, Brighton. In addition, I work remotely on Zoom or on the phone if preferred.

"During a period of major life change - which had aspects that were emotionally complex in perhaps unusual ways - the weekly sessions with Liane during this time were decisive in helping make sense of myself and others, and generally helping me keep myself together! And when the 'crisis' stage of events were over, we were able to do some really positive work in finding ways for the future for me. All through this, Liane showed great perception and offered clarity. In the period of time following those sessions with her, I continue to be informed by the work she and I did, and the insights she gave, and it's helped no end in building a solid base to grow from now my life circumstances have changed."   Dan

IN DETAIL

IN DETAIL

THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

I am able to work both in a short-term, solution focused way with specific issues, and also in a more open-ended therapeutic approach in which the professional relationship we form can help illuminate how patterns of relating can be causing difficulties in the world outside of the therapy room.

EXPERIENCE

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (2005) from The University of Brighton. My training covered a range of different approaches with the goal of tailoring my work to the unique individual in front of me. I have also worked in mental health support services for over 15 years and have a profound understanding of how to work effectively with people from all backgrounds. I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and am fully insured.

SPECIALISATIONS

I work with a wide range of difficulties, including but not limited to the following: anxiety and depression, bereavement, drugs and alcohol addiction and other addictions (your own or someone else’s), relationship difficulties, parenting problems, identity issues, problems at work, long-term health conditions, caring responsibilities, anger management, abuse, terminal diagnosis and spiritual matters. I also work with Boarding School Survivors.

FEES

I charge £60 per session, which lasts 50 minutes, and counselling works best if sessions are weekly. I can offer an initial phone call (no charge) or a 30-minute session for £20 so we can meet and decide if you wish to move forward with working together.
